ASHTANGA  YOGA  SHALA

Terms & Guidelines for Practice

To maintain a disciplined, safe, and traditional learning atmosphere, all students are kindly requested to follow the guidelines below.
 
General Discipline

  1. Please arrive 10 minutes before the class begins.

  2. Maintain silence inside the Shala to respect the practice of others.

  3. Follow the teacher’s instructions with sincerity and avoid comparing your practice with others.

  4. Regular practice is encouraged for steady progress.

Mobile & Electronic Devices*

  1. Mobile phones and all electronic devices are strictly prohibited inside the practice area.

  2. Kindly switch them off or keep them outside the Shala before entering.


Health & Safety

  1. Inform the teacher before class about any injuries, pain, or discomfort.

  2. Avoid practicing with a full stomach; maintain at least a 3-hour gap after a heavy meal.

  3. If you feel unwell, rest and return when fully ready.

 
Adjustments & Assistance*

  1. The teacher may offer physical adjustments to guide alignment and deepen understanding.

  2. If you prefer not to receive hands-on adjustments, please inform the teacher in advance.

 

Practice Etiquette

  1. Respect the traditional Ashtanga method and maintain consistency.

  2. Avoid strong perfumes, lotions, or oils before practice.

  3. Wear clean, comfortable clothing suitable for yoga.

  4. Bring your own yoga mat and towel, and keep them clean.

  5. Maintain personal hygiene and keep your practice space tidy.

Mysore-Style Practice

  1. Practice at your own pace while following the traditional sequence.

  2. New postures will be given gradually based on stability, breath control, and consistency.

  3. Do not skip ahead or alter the sequence without the teacher’s guidance.

 
Attendance & Leave

  1. Inform the teacher in advance if you will miss class or need to pause your practice.

  2. For monthly and package students, missed classes cannot be carried forward unless otherwise discussed.

 
Respect for the Space

  1. Treat the Shala as a sacred space for learning and transformation.

  2. Remove your shoes before entering the practice hall.

  3. Keep the environment clean and handle all Shala property with care.

  2. Respect the tradition, show commitment, and approach each session with humility.
