Welcome to Our Ashtanga Yoga Shala

At our Shala, we follow the traditional practice of Ashtanga Yoga as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and continued by Sharath Jois.

Our intention is to honor the practice in its true depth while creating a warm, supportive space for every student to grow — physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Here, yoga is not just exercise. It is a path of devotion, discipline, and self-awareness. We invite you to walk this journey with sincerity, patience, and humility.

What We Offer

Mysore-Style Classes

Each student practices at their own pace, following the traditional sequence. The teacher gives individual guidance, adjustments, and support. This style helps you build focus, stability, and personal growth over time.

Led Classes

Led classes are group sessions where the teacher leads everyone through the sequence together. This helps students synchronize breath and movement, stay in rhythm, and experience the energy of practicing as a group.

Primary & Intermediate Series

We teach both the Primary Series (Yoga Chikitsa) and Intermediate Series (Nadi Shodhana) step by step, according to each student’s ability and readiness. We focus on breath, alignment, and steady progression, so each student develops a strong and safe practice.

🕔 Shala Timings:

    •    Morning: 6:00 AM – 9:00 AM

    •    Evening:  6:00 PM – 7:30 PM

Moon Days & Observed Rest

In the Ashtanga tradition, Full Moon (Purnima) and New Moon (Amavasya) days are observed as Moon Days. On these days, there are no asana classes.

Why We Rest on Moon Days

  • The moon’s cycles have a strong energetic influence on the body and mind.

  • During full and new moons, our energy levels can shift, which may affect balance and stability in practice.

  • As taught by Sharath Jois, practicing on these days can increase the risk of injury because the mind tends to be more restless.

  • Resting on Moon Days helps us stay connected with natural rhythms and supports recovery, reflection, and balance.

Moon Days change each month depending on the lunar calendar. We announce the dates in advance and update our schedule accordingly.

What is Mysore Ashtanga Yoga?

Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic and disciplined practice that links breath with movement in a set sequence of postures. Rooted in the teachings of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and continued by Sharath Jois at the Sharath Yoga Centre (SYC), Mysore, it builds strength, flexibility, focus, and inner clarity.

Key Principles

  • Vinyasa Krama – Breath-synchronized movement that creates heat and energy.

  • Tristhana (Three Pillars) – Asana (posture), Pranayama (breath), and Drishti (gaze) for body, mind, and inner balance.

  • Bandhas (Energy Locks) – Mula, Uddiyana, and Jalandhara Bandhas to stabilize the body and channel energy.

Mysore-style classes are self-paced with individual guidance, allowing each student to progress steadily in this powerful tradition.
